The double eccentric butterfly valve, also known as the high performance butterfly valve, has a slightly offset shaft from the centerline of the pipe and the shaft is mounted behind the sealing band of the seat. The seat is a narrow elastic band that is clipped inside the body and must be elastic. The double eccentric butterfly valve has sufficient resilience to seal and the disc only wipes the seat a few degrees at the seat. This reduces friction, which means the seat can be used longer. The HP butterfly valve can be used with a metal seat and can operate at temperatures up to around 1200F. Since the disk is off-axis, there is a large amount of metal in the flow flow in the wide open position, and the maximum capacity of the double-bias valve is slightly smaller than the flat-plate non-bias valve. These valves are also fixed in position. Unlike lined valves, these valves can actually damage the seat, and if they are overtraveled, they all have a travel stop pin on the body.
